Description

In this place in the forest it is always cool and shady. It is a place with history. In 1795, a terrible bloodbath happened here. During this time, in the so called Seven Years' War, French troops fought against Austrian Hussars, who fought for the so-called "Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation". Down in the valley large troops stood face to face, while a single troup of French soldiers planned to raid the village from behind. For this, they had to go through the forest. But the Hussars had spies and knowledge of that plan, so they hid in the forest. When the French soldiers arrived, they all were massacred. Even in the valley, the French troops were forced back. However, four years later there was another great battle. This time, the French soldiers were the winners and the village was completely burned down. Then they occupied the town of Heidelberg. In 1801 a peace treaty was concluded and the French troops left Heidelberg. Thanks for viewing.
