Description

Greetings Folks, I'll show more from actually Cottismore not Conninsby (that's Typhoons), never fear.. But this I hot very VERY quickly just before I went in to see Black Star Riders in Cambridge.. Its for Neil (and others into this kind of history..) What you are looking at in gloomy detail, is a place called 'The Eagle';, its a pub that's been there for ages, but our interest in in its WW2 history.. Scorched in black, from lighters and matches, scratched into walls are the names of pilots and squadrons based in the area! U.S. and RAF, doesn't matter.. I know the Thunderbolt unit at Duxford is up there! (Snaffu!) Since then, units, pilots and others have placed stickers and badges, pictures all signed everywhere! There is even a pilots helmet from a Tiger Unit! Impressive! You bet.. And nit a soul about noticed it... Sad.... I recommend you fiddle with light yourselves, maybe you can get it better? I didn't want to over do it.. Oh yes! Also it was here that Watson and Crick announced to the world they had discovered 'the secret of life' (DNA), yep, in a pub.. How British! Enjoy Rob P.S. Brooklands tomorrow

Now that is just amazing....there's a show on TV at the moment "Great British Airfields", I've been recording them and actually watched one last night. All about the history of Duxford, and they actually went into this pub....and you've been there!! Fantastic, maybe a trip to Cambridge is in order when Karen and I visit :-) Thanks for thinking of me...this I truly do appreciate! thanks mate....

I wonder what we would all think of young 'chavs' today if they burned their initials into the ceilings of their local pubs! Great historical find mate.

What a lot of history is inscribed on this ceiling! You've found quite a treasure there, Rob, and you got a great photo of it! Well seen and captured, mate! Too bad it goes unnoticed by the latter several generations....
