Description

1929 4.5 Litre 'Le Mans' Bentley (With Vanden Plas Body) One of the most famous British Racing Cars of all time.. The Bentley Team won multiple races in the U.K. and on the Continent.. This car was delivered to its first owner H.N. Holder already prepared for the 'Junior Car Clubs' first 'British Double Twelve Hour Race' at Brooklands in May 1929. Holder and Sir Henry 'Tim' Birkin drove in the race.. Birkin also drove it in the Brooklands Automobile Racing Clubs Six Hour Sports Car Race in June 1929, in both cases it retired.. Its only success at Brooklands was a third in a 1936 all Bentley race.. Now, before World War One one, Walter Owen Bentley raced Motor Cycles and cars at Brooklands, and during the war he helped develop Aero Engines.. He founded Bentley Motors Ltd in 1919, the first motorcar introduced in 1921 and the 4.5 ltr in 1929.. This engine (and car, and its team mates), dominated Le Mans in the 20's..This was largely due to the 'Bentley Boys', a group of about a dozen 'race hard, play hard' gentlemen racers..The group included Tim Birkin and Woolf Barnato heir to Kimberley Diamond Fortune and chairman of Bentley.. They raced here at Brooklands regularly, and came to epitomise the golden age of Brooklands.. This car still runs and races at Classic car Races i the U.K. Note Tax Disc on side! Anyone guess the silver job behind it and yes that is a well know film Star Car at the back! Enjoy and zoom please. Rob

The car Ian Fleming wanted Bond to drive.....not sure what Q would make of it...A fantastic British Motor, well captured in this rather cramped looking display... I still say Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was built from a rowing boat and the 'silver' job....yes! if no other car, I know this is at Brooklands and it can only be.....well it'll do a 'ton on rails'.... :-) Don't want to spoil the game....

Cool detail and high key contrast in this shot of the elegant old time racing machine, mate. I can't believe that they still race this antique.

A sweet shot of this wonderful machine, Rob! Fascinating history behind it as well. Don't know about the silver one, but I could imagine Austin Powers tooling around in something like that....:-P

Bloody hell mate this is impressive. I've seen this and they are huge. Excellent shot mate of a car from a time when we were world leaders. I've seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when it was in the 'Cars of the Stars' museum, now sadly closed.
