What a beauty. You are very fortunate. Butterflies are a rarity in Southern California these days.

I'm at over an hour, so I must leave again, unfortunately. But I'll do more soon. And I wanted to get an insect shot---one from this week too---so I jumped ahead to this. Zoomed it's a huge shot, and that amazing butterfly seems like a beautiful silk construction, or maybe taffeta of some kind. With fringes, and beads for antennae. The top needles (if those leaf-like protrusions are needles) look like fingers reaching out for something. And they frame the top of the shot for all the activity below. I assume that's a larvae sac below the butterfly; but whatever it is, it's beautiful. As is the spindly reach of all those needles. I really don't know plant types, so I'm using very general words here. In fact, I"m not very knowledgeable about insects either, so if I'm wrong about the "butterfly" term, forgive me...A scintillating closeup of a creature who, I assume, doesn't have a long life, but whose textures are like fine fabric and fringe. A beautiful intimate shot, Andrea. And a nice place to end for now...
