Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

How refreshing to see one of ours, instead of the Chinese invader Harmonia axyridis..

By the way, last year, I observed a great tit feasting on HA larvae, hope that's a habit others will form. We will then see lots more of our lady birds.

I was visited by one of those Brazilian ones: they're a little bit more brown and have more than 7 spots...that and they say all sorts of insect things with a distinct, Portuguese accent. But anyway, what a shot! I love the composition and that fancy lichen. The light is superb! It's so warm and vivid, but it's friendly to the eyes. The textures are amazing and the DOF is magical. This is the kind of shot I'd expect to see in National Geographic. On another note, I've been revisiting some "Classic" science fiction..well, maybe "classic" is the wrong word. I've been revisiting the genre of cheesy pulp science fiction, and because of that, when I saw the name of this image, I thought of how wonderful a pulp sci-fi title it would make, with just one itsy-bitty modification: something like "Seven-Spot Ladybird on Xanthoria-VIII" Hmmm...now I wonder if I should attempt to write such a tale.

Now I'm wondering how a ladybug with a Portugese accent sounds...LOL! What a brilliant shot!!!

I need to read up on these so I can tell the goodies from the baddies. Last year my native garden blackbird caught & ate one of these in flight. Never seen that before. This year the female clings to the bird-feeder. Emergent behaviour perhaps? Well, for me to witness, at any rate!!

A beautiful color combination against the lichen!
