The first thing that hits me with this image is the cradling you created. The cockatoo isn't just peeking (playing that old delightful child's game, peek-a-boo), but he's cradled by all the forms and hues you've painted around him. And his feathers are covering his beak, as if he were shy. I mean, I know he's playing peek a boo (it's the title of the piece, lol), but the image conveys a shyness as well, endearingly and gently. Maybe the very emotion that gave rise to such games to begin with...gentle revelation while remaining concealed. And what's even more striking is that his beauty and detail are eye-grabbing---hardly conveying "concealment"---and yet he's concealing himself. The mix of the two---concealing and revealing---is wonderful---which is what I'm trying to say in that awkward bunch of sentences! Then your flowers are equal to the bird, in sensual detail---those stripes are like ultimate candy stripes, or stripes in a big peppermint sundae. (This is a highly edible image!) And the cockatoo has deep reds under his feathers, as if the 'shadows' here are actually luminous reds rather than the usual dark hues we see in shadows. Around those flowers (the hibiscus'), you have leaves that are total 'Carol' experiences---with those rushing tempestuous sensuous strokes, the kind of onslaught of energy and passion that one finds often in your pieces. In fact, the image is caressed by those leaves---and they're a yellowish green, which gives a powerful contrast to your sensual pinks and reds. Then, you've painted more placid areas above, in those 'less-active' (visually) petals or leaves; or maybe they're just background (carol background) where hues and textures give a peaceful backdrop to all this intensity. And the bottom is also very 'carol-ish', in that the hues are darkened and intensified, making the ground a place of deep inner spirit, energy, passion, even love---these grounds may have no actual 'ground' in them, but they ground your images with deep soul. ('Inner' grounds.) The overall feeling is that of a big sensually cradled image, where a grand bird is revealing and concealing; and he's got some serious power around him; and with all the detail you gave him, he's a match to the powers of the rest of the image. A big deep red and pink passionate painting, and very fitting for spring. Bee-yoo-ti-ful, Carol.
