I love your poem, and how you show its meaning in the painting. This is one of the most painterly pieces you've done in a while (among a number of very painterly pieces), and your rendering of the energies of each grape, along with the lines in each leaf, is wonderful. The grapes are painted as if each one is a world to itself. The circular motion of your strokes gives real movement and life to each grape. And you capture the variety of grape hues---not easy to capture, as there are many grape hues while, somehow, they all still look like "grapes---giving each its own distinct personality. And the leaves have beautiful purple hues mixed in with the greens and other leaf-like hues. And you have some very young grapes (left-bottom), and a cascade-like treatment of the background---kind of like a photographer's bokeh, but with textured-glass and falling hues at once. The background, where it's visible, is beautiful. (It's visible at the bottom mostly---more of your flowing hues where one would normally expect "ground"---ie, solid and dark.) And compositionally, you have the biggest bunch in the center, coming down in that characteristic "V" that grape-bunches get, standing out from the whole as the representative for the whole image. It's sumptuous and beautifully done. And (this is gonna sound silly) very grape-like. I mean you got the essence of grapes. It radiates grape-dom. (Should I go on? It's grapologically pure...) I love this painting. Wonderful work!
