Description

They are waiting to take us into The severed garden Do you know how pale and wanton thrillful Comes death on a strange hour Unannounced, unplanned for Like a scaring over-friendly guest You've brought to bed Death makes angels of us all And gives us wings Where we had shoulders Smooth as raven's claws - excerpt from The Severed Garden by Jim Morrison My grandpa, James Paul Eagan, passed away this month on 4/3/15. He was a philosopher, constant debater, and an engineer. Always an engineer. The abused covers of Popular Mechanics magazines he kept stacked in a neat column next to his cribbage table. He would take things apart in his mind only to put them back together again. He was married to my grandma, Mildred Jane Roh, having nine children between them, and was a proud employee of Boeing until he retired. His favorite movie was Finian's Rainbow, starring Fred Astaire and Petula Clark, and he loved molasses cookies and my grandma's pot pies. He questioned everything and loved a good discussion. He was brilliant. Having a mind like his was like putting an engine in neutral and opening the throttle all the way just to hear it rev. There are no words for death. Nothing we say can reconcile us to the tatters we are left holding--the hungry clawing for life tearing apart any pretense towards meaning or beauty. I doubt Jim Morrison believed his own words about death any more than I do, any more than my grandpa would have. But I want to. I love you grandpa. Somehow I thought I commented on this when I saw it the other day! I'm obsessed with this image and the lighting is marvelous. Stunning piece--should totally be printed and framed!

the dancer betwixt the borders, lit but hidden beneath her shadowed veil... and the veil of the light and the dark, a barren tree admist bright smiling flowers, ravens telling none of their secrets... you've captured the in.between beautifully
