Description
No, not a real Rembrandt, just me making it up...
1) I adore Rembrandt.
2) I luuuuuv closeups of paintings: I love their abstraction, their sudden intensity, the way the oils suddenly turn into vibrating rock-formations, where a sleeve or a hand becomes a strange 'badlands' unfolding before our eyes...
Made in Photoshop, just fun. Hope you enjoy.
Have a fine day, and thanks as always for your wonderful visits!
Mark
Please zoom for the oil-like details...

This is so interesting. It reminds me of something celestial, especially the zoomed view. I also love looking at the masters paintings close up. They take on a totally different mood. I used to go to the museum and study the paintings from a distance and then really close, staring at all the brush strokes from only inches away.

It makes me think about an insect :-) I see legs and a head. Wonder if you went to one of the alleys, took a shot of a creature there and then you went home and made your amazingly beautiful postwork :-) You can make anything look fantastic :-)

A wonderful abstract, Mark - deep red & black darkness that seems to be illuminated by a glowing light source. Okay, let's face it, none of us here is a Rembrandt, but I definitely see a connection to the way he dealt with darkness & light & what you've done in this piece. I have also looked at Rembrandts in museums close up & they very much look like abstracts when viewed that way. My favorite example of this phenomena, though is the giant three panel version of Monet's "Water Lilies" that I used to stare at for long periods of time at The Museum of Modern Art in NYC. It took up an entire immense wall & was a perfectly recognizable image of water lilies in a pond from a distance, but from less than a few feet away became a swirling mass of abstract colors. I really can't comprehend how he was able to create this mind-boggling masterpiece, which he worked on from 1914 - 1926 while his eyesight was failing from cataracts!

Aha! The one of his second cousin from Madeira which he had to overpaint when the inquisition were upset by the heretical claims of his 'maiden' aunt.

OK, to me this looks like you're looking out through some openings from a dark cave, at a brightly-lit scene outside...what a cool piece of work!

So, this is what you get when you open a Pandora's Box. Tons of irradiating textures in this quasi oil job, Mark, with its black, red and white ambience. Rembrandt or not, this has all of the ebb and flow of something Faustian, or celestial, or of even extraterrestrial alien, such as the imposing creatures in the Aliens movie series, with Sigourney Weaver. A far cry from your signature high key work, my friend, and most imposing.

Mark, first of all let me say I was totally blown away by this colorful presentation. After having read your reasons for loving this genre I find myself in total agreement. This abstract image is such a cool concept and does give one a whole new way of viewing all types of art.
