Description
This is the gardener's cottage next to the chateau at Chenonceau (not too shabby). Unfortunately, conditions were far from ideal for our visit to Chenonceau - it was raining on & off, but even worse, the chateau was undergoing renovations & the structure had all kinds of scaffolding on it - which seriously put a damper on photographing one of the most beautiful of the chateaus of the Loire (I had visited there in much better conditions years earlier). Oh well, you can't win 'em all...

My gosh, it looks right out of a fairy tale or movie set.... absolutely delightful!

not too shabby indeed...The person strolling by, in the umbrella, makes this "japanese" to me, somehow. The placement, their random appearance, the grace of that umbrella...very un-European, to my eye. But that's a little flourish...because it's a grand fairy tale facade capture, with that luminous blue roof, and that saturated red, and the bright and deep yellows and greens. It's got a gingerbread house feeling, to me---and from some of the comments, it's that way for others too. Amazing how perspective changes things: Cottages were originally for animals; they weren't up to human standards. But because the chateau wasn't in its best condition when you were there, you had to "settle" for the gardener's cottage, which was supposed to be less regal and fancy---and yet it's more palatial than anyplace most of US will ever live in. (Tell me I have to live there? I'll be over in 10 minutes.) It's a magical frontal shot, and your postwork brings out the magic vividly, to my eye.
