Description

I don't remember exactly where this was, but it was in southwestern France in the Dordogne region. I've seen similar houses built into the sides of mountains & cliffs in other parts of France, as well as in Spain... Please zoom.

I have the same shot. I think this is near Tayac, which has several houses built into the high limestone cliff there.

I have never seen a modern home in person built into stone except maybe in New Mexico where some are under ground in the desert. the desert there is hard like stone!. there is a least one home here built under a soil roof. several in Oklahoma built in the side of hills. there it is a good idea with all the tornadoes your capture is outstanding

What a striking structure! I'm sure it's been there for quite some time. Good for security, but I worry about earthquakes (that's me, I grew up in the LA area). Fantastic capture!

It looks unlived in, perhaps it tends to be very damp but I love the shot.

The photo is very well made and representative. The place to make a home is interesting, certainly spared on the roof and walls !!!!!!!

Amazing - I guess no fear of rock slides either!

I would be interested to see the inside of this home. I went to a home built into the mountain in Southern Utah USA once when i was very young. It was quite impressive. They had even carved their bathtub out of stone. thanks for sharing these photos of the ones in France.

An unusual place to build houses. I guess it's 26 years ago when I was also in this area and saw similar houses. Superb shot, fantastic details and colors.

Outstanding capture of this truly amazing house built into the side of a mountain. Looks like it has been there for awhile...

Very unique, at least to me. I also wondered if it was empty or if someone lived there. Well found!

You said you don't remember exactly where this was...I think it'd be great if you said it was in a suburb of Cleveland...the sight itself is imposing and confrontational, all that stone sitting right on top of a home. And it makes one wonder if the stone wouldn't just cave into the home at some point. As a photo: Though you may not have had all the angles in the world to capture this, it's an imposing and looming shot; your angle lets us see the whole of the rock above the house, a big slab of it next to the house, and the feel of the house "under" all that rock. Like it's holding it up. Strong light on the facade, and deep looming dark hues in the rock itself. And a vivid blue road in front of it all. Your hues make a strong musical statement, as they do in many of your images. A strong capture, muscular and poetic at the same time, more fine work, finding a pov that would bring this massive presence to our doorstep. (btw, in case you don't get ebots for comments-on-comments, I added a fuller comment on "Brantome," as I promised I would...)
