Description

Captured back on an overcast 5/29/09, during my first visit to the beautiful Huntington Botanical Center and Conservatory in beautiful San Marino, California. To be more explicit, I found this beauty - a paragon of cool bark - in the desert cacti and succulent plant section of the gardens. It appears to be melting. I believe the surface soil is a combination of dirt and sand. Have a nice day.

Wow, I have no idea what that is; what a cool and unusual tree! You're right, it does seem to be metamorphosing into something else. Wonderful find and capture, Harry!

This tree looks really absolutely weird, it must be very old. Excellent find and shot.

I said I'd do one current one (of this batch of older shots), and as I'm at an hour now, I'll end with this beauty. This is such a yellow-jaundiced-brown shot. It's so dessert-y. You caught the tree textures with sharp details in the furrows and edges, and it looks like a very aged hand spreading its grasp to the sky. And you allowed falling leaves (needles, etc) to show, in the top of the shot, which gives this a soft, almost willowy feel---very different from the feel of that trunk. A grizzled, jaundiced, very intense shot; and oddly beautiful. I've never seen a tree like this, not even in a botanical center. Intensely caught, Harry, a fine piece of grizzled tree-photography.
