Description

Headed for shore. Captured back on an overcast 5/29/09, on my first visit to the beautiful Huntington Botanical Center and Conservatory in beautiful San Marino, California. Extremely few of this species at the Gardens. Have a scintillating day.

I love how the head colour matches so well with the water. These mallard boys are common as dirt around here, it's hard to spot anything else in some spots. And when they are that common it's sadly easy to overlook their beauty. An excellent shot, Harry!

your duck captures got all the salient features of them (the mallards---I actually knew they were mallards, this time, from yours and Denise's gallery): ie, those chrome-like green-blue heads, the beautiful white/brown back feathers, that beautiful black end with the white "back fender", etc. You got it all. But for me, the capper is your capture of the water---the undulating almost acrylic surface of it, the high reflections and deep greens, and how it all swirls around these mallards. Hard to tell, even, where the water ends---though I can see concrete back there---because it looks like a continuum, in your capture. Beautiful liquid textures along with the very mallard-y mallards. A very sensuous shot, Harry.
