Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

What an unusual and wonderful thing! I can't believe it's lasted so long without turning to dust...you must keep it well protected. You have so many wonders in your home!

Looks like an antler on a smaller scale. What a great thing to document Andrea.

WOW! It is amazing how it looks like a hand :-) 40 years is really a long time to have a fungus. It is still in a fine stage :-)

I'm thinking that it is from an alien chicken Great capture

A very unusual growth. I was immediately reminded of "The Monkey's Paw", a 1902 supernatural story by W. W. Jacobs. I do hope you haven't tried making any wishes on it.

It looks just like a Cladonia lichen except it is much bigger. A great demonstration piece that shows how fungi create the structural support of lichens. This specimen would be very valuable for a University Herbarium teaching basic Cryptogamic Plant morphology.

I agree with Denise, you must have lots of wonders in your home. And with Mark about not making any wishes with it. You even know how it got into the UK...Zooms a must, because we really get to see the textures on it, the folds, and just how much it looks like a distorted hand. And you used the perfect background for it too. I'd have never thought of saving such a thing. It's beautiful, Andrea.

Fascinating, and so cool that it has survived all these years!

Not long enough to be a handy back scratcher but almost!
