Description
A much closer view of the castle from my previous post. Queribus was the last stronghold of the Cathars, a religious sect who were mercilessly persecuted by the Catholic church in medieval times. It was built in the 11th century & the Cathars made their last stand here in the 13th century. It's the highest point for many miles around...

Wow what gorgeous architecture and design. It's amazing how well it still looks after so long. The landscape around the castle and below is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing the interesting background information.

I love how you have captured so well the way this old fortress seems to grow from the rocks. Isn't it strange the way supposedly peaceful religions have caused so much death and destruction through the centuries and even today? Thanks for sharing thisamazing view. :)

Looks really strong! I agree with SunriseGirl, Religion should unite men with God and with people, not create separation between them

I can not imagine a man in a suit of armor charging up this hill and still being healthy enough to fight when he got there. I am sure that there was an easier way up there but that was my first impression!
