So it comes down to this. The dispute settled in a classical method. Winner takes the prize.
Let us hope she is worth the sacrifice one of them, or perhaps both of them(?) could make.

A red uniform was typically Infantry in the 17th Century, while blue was Naval. If the weapon of choice had been sabres then I would say the blonde gentleman would have the advantage. But, the weapons are pistols, giving the advantage to the brown haired gentleman. But on the other hand, the blonde gentleman is wearing black breeches with a blue waistcoat, which could indicate he is a musketeer - that color combination was worn for a period.

As the story stands, the blonde's lass is Dallying with the merchant. His heart is broken. True love has played him false. His plan is to draw but now fire, causing the usurper to murder him. It would only be better if the faithless one were here to watch him die!! Grand image, Bill!!!
