Description

This is made with Pastel Pencils, ball point and fineliner. Same drawing as before, but I took a copy on same paper, but had to lie to the printer and say it was epson glossy, before it would give me a copy... :-o Good night .. I will continue my commenting tomorrow. Thanks for viewing and commenting to my prev post.

Helle, this is truly amazing work and something you should be proud of. I especially like the way this one has a bit more details on the reflections in the water. I can hardly think of a better way to celebrate 2900 images in the gallery. CONGRATULATIONS!

I like this one even better! The colours are really rich and the reflection superbly convincing. Funny about the printer: I have to lie to mine when it's scanning, it won't do it if you tell it it's black and white!

I, like some of the others, like this one more Helle. My scanner is a Canon Lide 210 and I find it very good and quick.

Gee, that looks familiar. Didn't I just see it yesterday? I hope the printer didn't take offense at being lied to. Loverly work, Helle, and congratulations on reaching the heady total of 2900. Totziens.

I saw both versions of this earlier and I thought I commented, but then I've also been in Agara, and so who knows where my comment went. It's probably stuck down in somebody's tea-cup! And so I'm making a comment again. When I first looked at this image, I wondered if you could make one of those old-fashioned "illuminated manuscripts" with pastels or pencils. I don't know if it's possible, but I'm sure YOU can make one! This makes me think of those old texts, well, the pictures that went with them: the colors are always so brilliant and alive, but they are not overwhelming, just vivid and alive. This image is alive; I love the way strong line and soft curves and then smudges that seem more like breezes. Does that make sense? Your reflections on the water are a masterpiece all by themselves and the whole image is simply perfect!

well, hard to follow chip! But I love it too---and it really is a different piece from the last one. I must admit, I don't understand the whole "lying to the printer" thing. I didn't know what you (and Andrea) were talking about. I'll take your word for it. (I lie to my printer and computer all the time---I tell them I'm a marsupial, but they don't buy that.) Whatever you did to your printer, this is a beautiful, brighter version of the place, the lower details (like the windows along the ground level) are drawn in more clearly, and it has an overall more yellow summery feel to it. I like the first as much, but this is more bright and summery in feel. Your water is more made of blocks of hue---almost a crayon feel to it (pastels create that often)---and the background is more enveloping. I love the reds of the water. And again you got the pileup of the architectural forms, a very 'cubist' set of shapes. And again you got the strange slant of that barn-like building---it almost looks like a little chapel! (What is that thing---a boat house?) It's just brighter and more "spacious" somehow. But I like the other one as much, they're just different. Your water, in the first is more luminous, here it's thicker, more painterly...You've had a number of drawings/paintings, of late, with these deep rich oranges and reds. You must be drawn to them; you do them so richly. If you're not able to do large scale pieces, these are ways to do large works without spending the days required for full paintings. You get the essence of a place, and you get a lot of energy and presence, while not working on a piece for days. A beautiful pair, Helle; and, as you know, I loved the original photo too.
