Description
An old street in Arles, France. I believe that shiny black object that looks somewhat like an elongated chess pawn was placed there to prevent cars from entering the street. Europeans have a tendency to drive their cars wherever they can possibly fit (whether it's advisable to do so or not) & so municipalities have devised all sorts of clever devices to thwart them. If someone has a different idea about what that thing might be for, please enlighten me.
More photos from Arles to come the next couple of days...

What a lovely scenic shot! And I think you're likely correct about the function of the black bollard. Excellent shooting!!

Well could be a pawn belonging to a giant chess game, but I think you are right! :) Great capture, excellent perspective!

We have those bollards everywhere. A terrific photo of this place where Van High spent so much time.

Charming street. This is where US has the advantage over older Europe - no one envisaged the motor car when this was built!

I like your POV and photo and also agree about the 'chess pawn' but I would think that the steps might slow you down also!
