Description

Captured back on an overcast 5/29/09, during my first visit to the beautiful Huntington Botanical Center and Conservatory in beautiful San Marino, California. I don't recall what section of the Gardens this was in. In fact, I'm taking a huge leap of faith just in calling it an iris. It is in deep contrast to the others of this species I've seen. Adelis.

WOOOA So beautiful it is. It reminds me of a beautiful jellyfish, I once saw on TV. It was waving with its whole in order body to move around. Looked exactly like this :-)

An iris it is indeed, and a very lovely one; this colour combination isn't as common as the usual purples and pinks and whites, and stands out because of your wonderful capture!

I'm at almost 70 minutes, and I'll have to stop for now. But I purposely ended on this because it's one of the most unusual flower captures you've posted (among a huge array of beautiful flower captures). Yes, it's a most unusual iris, but your capture and treatment made it a near brittle crepe-like thing---as in crepe-paper, not the pancake---with the most unusual light. It's almost a graphic, rather than a photograph; the flower has such a graphic presence, and it's so delicate and, as I say, brittle. The light around the central petals is luminous, and the pov makes a big "splash"---with the outer petals encasing those darker inner ones. And the bed of green is perfect. A most unusual and exotic flower capture from you, beautifully caught, cropped and postworked. A real beauty, Harry. And a terrific place to stop (for me), for now. One of the most eye-opening iris captures I've ever seen.
