Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Interesting that they can leave them there like that, if it were scummy lundun, they'd have disappeared in a trice. The element we have here now will nick your eye balls while you tell them the time, then have the temerity to return half an hour later to steal the sockets.

Sumptuous is an apt title here Andrea - I would never have thought of it !!

Clever title. They look like the remains of giant worms.

With those guardrails around them it does appear to be a sort of cage for some creature. Well spotted and a great shot!

All of the 'sumps' are all penned up! :o)

Yes! I love that you shoot things like this. The black and white is spooky and very clear, and a really fine job of inverting the inner parts of these pipes. I love the color photo too---I like what Denise wrote, how the fencing makes it look like these are in captivity. Your high key behind the sumps makes their deep metallic hues stand out. And your angle makes it look like they're kind of resting, but also plopping all over each other the way puppies do in a bed. How you've toned this shot lets them really be the stars. (And btw, you live in a beautiful area! My area is kind of like this, but it has high rises all over, whereas yours has normal smaller dwellings. It's a beautiful area!) I know the root of "sumptuous" means "cost" or "costly," something like that. So I assume that the root of "sump" is totally different. (I just looked it up: Yep. Totally different.) (Btw, you get 10 free dictionary-lookups per session...after that, your credit card is charged.) I like how you combined the words for your title, and I love this shot.
