Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

What a great shot of the lonely flower and beautiful buds branching out amongst the big green leaves. The contrast of colors are amazing !

My mother had geraniums in her garden but they were the common red variety. I've never seen one like this. Absolutely stunning.

I've been here everyday (I can only say that of a select group of artists), and when I see flower captures like this, I jump up no matter where I am at the time. This is splendid. The clarity on the hairs on the stems, and the beautiful clarity on the ridges of the central flower, are all eye popping. There's even an ant hanging out, I think. A big array shot, with all that beautiful green around and behind...but those front stems and buds and that central flower is pure portrait stuff. Beautiful. A truly beautiful shot, Andrea. And full size is a must! (I've said this to Denise as well: Why can't I photograph a flower? My flower shots are boring at best, and profound insults at worst. I've gotten lawsuits from flowers. I drew them for years, but with a camera, they rule me, they just don't cooperate...You two put me to shame. And also---and I don't forgive either of you for this!---you two know so many Latin names, and it bothers me no end. I don't know most of the COMMON names, but you two rattle off these Latin names like you know them in your sleep. I didn't even know this was a geranium, and I sure as hell didn't know it was a "maderense"---I don't know what "maderense" means! And the whole thing depresses me deeply. Anyway, I got that off my chest, now to the next image...)
