Description
I have mentioned several times in the past that my mother has been the reason for my love of animals. Growing up, we were allowed to bring home pretty much anything. Mom brought home as much as we did. We have had snakes, a tarantula, skunks and way to many other animals to list. My mother taught me that animals have feelings. They love, feel fear and pain. They grieve and they feel joy. She taught me to respect them. Mom made the holidays wonderful. Christmas was magical. Thanksgiving was a feast. Even Easter was special. My mother baked our bread, cakes and cookies from scratch. She made our jelly, milked the cow, made butter, cottage cheese and buttermilk. She raised most of our vegetables and then canned or froze them. My mother saw to it that we saw as many of the natural places and parks in America as we could. Sadly, my older sister has fractured what is left of my family. She spent a lot of years doing this. I am thankful that I took the time to step aside of her and get to know my mother in her last few years. My mother was an honorable person, and a lady. My mother taught me about respect, kindness and how to stand up for what is right. My only regret is that I waited so long to get to know her after I grew up. My advise is to not waste any time if you have an older parent. Time is something you can not get back.
This is my mother. She taught me to love.
I found this photo of my mother after she passed 12 years ago. Taken in 1953, It had been badly damaged. I have spent several hours on it.

Beautiful job on the photo. I'm sad to hear about your older sister. I hope things will mend there. A beautiful tribute to your mother and all she taught you. My mother passed in 2000 and both I and my brother miss her despite her shortcomings. And you now pass that love you received on to your little charges. I really feel for you and them. God bless! :-)

Lovely photo & tribute to your mum. I lost my mum when I was four so unfortunately don't remember her at all but was brought up by my wonderful aunt, her sister. xx

Well done on the restoration! Brilliant! My mother was my best friend and taught me everything about the natural world.

Bev, thank you so much for posting this, Like you, I fell prey to our sister's years of preaching that our mother was the source of all our problems. Thanks to your loving and heroic care of her in her final years, I had the chance to accept her love and share my love of her. In the end, no one can take away all of the gifts of love, honor, and compassion she gave us.

A mother's love is a special. I new June thru my second husband, and yes Christmas was Magic. She was a baker's daughter so everything she cooked was from scratch. She was the glue that held the family together. She welcomed me as one of her own and even accepted my son by my first marriage. She is the one who showed me what a real family was supposed to be like. My mother and father was killed when I was four so I new nothing of the beauty of family gatherings She made all the holidays special. The world lost a great treasure when we lost her. She is missed a lot. ..

A wonderful and loving lady! you are fortunate to have such a mother. My biological mother passed away Jan 2 2000 - since she appreciated good humor, it was mentioned that she wasn't Y2K compliant.
