Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

That bottle is a real work of art. You would do well in print advertising. As for the imitation violets, well, at least you can use them anytime of the year.

I love your perfume bottle series, and this is a gorgeous addition. You have a great eye for setup and design, and it really comes out in these images. I talked to Mark (anahata.c) on Saturday, and among the topics on which we both waxed eloquent were "Andrea's Perfume Series," and "Flowers in the House."

Lol---Tara, above, told you about our conversation, and yes, we talked about those 2 terrific series as well as a lot of other things you post, and your ears should've been on fire (she gushed too, lol). As for your using imitation violets, I think it would've been great if several of your fans had asked for their money back. (Lotta opportunities for cheap humor on this site, and no one takes advantage of them...except me...) Anyway...as tara says (and I agree completely), you have a great eye for setup and design, so it matters not a whit whether those are real violets or imitation---in fact, I think they're beautiful in this shot. Wonderful purples framing the bottle, the bottle is a star (literally) between them, and the stems in back tie the thing together. And the cap is a capper to the whole piece. And you picked a great background---it looks real. How many backgrounds do you have in your home? I mean, from your gallery, it looks like you have thousands! (And why can't I do an inside shot worth ____?) This is a great gritty black background, with lots of highlights throughout. Once again, you master the art of presentation; and I'm telling you, if you made a book of your perfume bottle photos, I'd buy 200 copies. I told that to Tara too. Maybe we should pool our funds and give you a grant. Wonderful shot.
