Description

This beauty is one a the 'Songbird' series which are F1 hybrid Columbines. I have this year raised a few more from a mixed packet, and can hardly wait for them to get big enough to flower! another view Aquilegia Nightingale

I've never seen this color--it's gorgeous. Marcos has them all over the place, in the more common white and red colors. They grow like crazy here; I just bought a dark red one to put on the fence!

A gorgeous colour; I have one similar but paler, not quite as intensely blue. Lovely shot!

An exquisite bloom, and your photograph is superb. I love the sharp detail and the softer areas of pure color. This is gorgeous!

I'm skipping out of order now, because I'm at an hour (and I think 8 images), and I want to do at least a few newer ones before stopping tonight...but this is a hell of a shot to jump to. Your flickr version is so vivid, and feels like a presentation, like the flower and surroundings posed for you. Also your postwork on the background is wonderful. (You're one of the few people here who do consistently fine work with postworked backgrounds, while leaving the front subject more 'real'.) THIS shot---well I zoomed it, and it took over my entire monitor! (And i have a big monitor!) In display view (the smaller view), it has a beautiful tonal quality, and it's so vivid and subtle at the same time. Hard to describe, but it feels vivid and yet understated. (An old girlfriend of mine used to love "understated" clothing. "Vivid, but understated.") But in zoom? Whoosh!!! BIG flower! We really see the textures on the petals---like chiffon---and the depth of those deep blue spots in the center of the petals. And the spindly, ragged quality of the stamens. A really sensual textural closeup! Also, you caught it so the longer-reaching petals go off to the right, giving the piece balance, since the flower is facing left---our left, that is. Beautiful work, Andrea. On both pics.
