Description

I've wanted to get this shot for years. One of the most iconic, and most photographed sites in Missouri, the ruins of the "castle' at Haha Tonka State Park, has been photographed from every possible vantage point. (I've shot hundreds of photos of this place, and I know Bill and Tara loaded up an SD card or two here! LOL) But there are probably not many from this particular point, as directly below the camera is a 200 foot drop into a canyon! You'll see what I mean when I post the video later this week. I don't think the day could have been any more perfect. It was very calm, and the sky was full of those wonderful scenic clouds. The whole trip was worth it for this one shot. The Inspire flew perfectly, even when I lowered it into the canyon - well below where I was standing (my heart skipped a beat or two, I have to admit). We'll be heading home tomorrow, and I've got a ton of catching up to do! I'll be working on the next page in the T.N.A. story, and hope to post it sometime this week. I asked the front desk at this hotel to move us to a room upstairs, and the WiFi is much better, now! Hope everyone is having a great week, and thanks for dropping by!

Hopefully, once the FAA gets things figured out, maybe I can make a buck or two... They've already granted exceptions to some movie studios and news networks. :-)

I don't think that's a castle ruins mate, looks more like a stately home ruin. If it is a castle, that's a strange definition of one ....

It was a mansion built by a wealthy Kansas City businessman. He was killed in an auto accident, so he never got to enjoy it. It was used as a hotel until it caught fire in 1942 or so.. Not really a true castle, it's just been called 'The Castle' for years. :-)

Are castles are more an war buliding than an home they tower to the Heavens and always have the means of getting what truth we want from them we allow to stay as our guest in the cells below We have an long history of these things and us people in Ireland both North and South of being in them I do love the few we have still standing they remind us of days from our past And just for the record my passport shows that I am an Brit More to do with where I was born than anything else there is an saying Only our rivers are free Look forwards to the AV of the Castle

Robert Snyder never had a chance to complete this project, as he died in 1906. A fire in 1942 further hampered/halted construction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ha_Ha_Tonka_State_Park A similar effort, began in North Carolina (Asheville) about the same period, is now successful as a tourist attraction... Biltmore Estate Mansion. .... looking forward to your video......... watch out for hillbillies with goose guns :)

Awesome photo. You need to submit it to some tourist type magazine in Missouri/etc.

This is certainly a perfect shot. Your Inspire is very impressive in what it can do. And yes, the colours and clarity of the scene along with the magnificent detail blow me away. Were you able to fly over the building or would that be too far.

I did two flyovers of the structure at about 60 feet - just above it. I'll be posting a video in the next few days, and you'll get to see it. Actually, I was standing right by the ruin - in the full size you can see me at the lower right in front of the structure with the controller.

Oh man, this is totally cool! I just called Bill in to see it, and he's thoroughly impressed. :) We loved our day at HaHa Tonka, and would never have seen it if it hadn't been for your first batch of pics from there. SUCH a neat place! This is an amazing shot. I hope I've got enough oomph on our wifi to watch the video!!
