wow...I come back to comment here and I find this in-your-face flat pancake of a flattened trunk, looking almost like a sea-dollar or some strange manatee. What a fascinating shot! Your pov brings home the utter flatness of the trunk, not to mention its lowness to the ground. And, like your squirrel capture (2 uploads ahead), the bark of this stump harmonizes with its surroundings extremely well. Yet, in the middle of this camouflage: that big flat slab. It looks like a sea creature to me, or someone's cap that got flattened by a truck. Great quirky capture, and lots of textures and lines to add to your already voluminous collection of great textures. (I wonder: If they cut a tree this low, why not cover it over, or remove the roots altogether...wouldn't such a low trunk be a hazard to trip over?) It sure makes an eye-grabbing picture...

Interesting to see a stump in a nature center. One would expect them to be preserving the trees unless, of course, there was disease or some sort of damage which made its removal necessary. Wonderful catch or this old dried out stump. You didn't happen to count the rings, did you?

What an amazing pattern of cracks in this big stump, and a great eye you have to present it so well for us to admire! Well done, Harry, and I had to go searching for your uploads. I hate when that happens!
