Description
An example of the rich spirit, imagination & complexity of the architecture in Barcelona. Most people are familiar with Gaudi & his amazing work which can be found all over the city, but there are also a huge number of "ordinary" buildings like this, which, as far as I know, aren't well known, but which incorporate fanciful architectural flourishes that delight the eye...

what is really interesting is that each window shows a slightly different scene

Yes, I see nothing ordinary in this pageant of finely sculptured carvings. Were there molds made for these carvings or were they each individually created? In any case, mind-blowing magnifique beyond belief in this stellar capture.

I love this fancy ornate style! Beautiful capture, it really enhances the carving!

there's no rhyme or reason to where I start, and I decided to start here because you make the point that even in an 'ordinary' structure, there is much beauty. I understand why you say "ordinary" (a few people, above, comment that there's nothing ordinary about this, and they're right of course): But your meaning is, I assume, that this isn't a major church, castle, something of major historical importance...it could be a passing facade, perhaps a municipal building, etc. But the ornament is beautiful. It looks renaissance, but it has gothic elements (the pointed arches in the second layer going up, and in some of the finials above the main windows, etc). The combination works beautifully. I could talk for a while about the beautiful carving, etc, but I want to speak about the shot, since that's all yours: I find these types of facades very difficult to shoot, except in closeup, because the morass of detail tends to overwhelm composition, overview, etc. I think you framed this masterfully, with the two sides of the 8-window bay as perfect frames. And the uppermost windows as crowns (one per each two windows below). And the lightest layer on top---perhaps in part from your always sensitive postwork---with the darkest layer on bottom. Perhaps it was dark to begin with, but also your postwork brought out the tones and highlights. So it's sandwiched, with that beautiful center section in between. And those bright reflective windows are wonderful counterpoint---much more modern than the tracery all around it. As are the four orange to yellow flags...A very fine piece of architectural capture, very sensitive to the language of facades. And you captured the ornamental detail with genuine acuity. More fine architectural work, Claude. (I recently spoke with tara, and she feels the same way about your treatment of photographs as I do. She spoke of walking into a room in your home, and seeing a shot you'd been working on, and how stunning it was just 'sitting' there on your monitor...with a sense of wonder at how you drew all that out of a shot. Very affirming of everything I feel in your work. If your ears were burning that day, that's why...)
