Description

April 7, 2015 Returning home from shopping I saw this tree trunk sawed up for removal. The mystery is the large, round hollow concavity inside the tree trunk. I wonder if the trunk has grown around a large rock, however, how could the men saw the trunk with a rock inside? I have no answer and wonder if any of you can come up with a believable answer to this mystery. A real brain teaser! Enjoy! :-)

I have never seen anything like that...But it would make an interesting piece of natural art if it could be preserved...

Holy frack - that's the weirdest tree section I've ever seen! I'd almost pay to have someone cut that section out and I could make a bit of unusual furniture out of it. I can see this stained and polished up and used as a large bowl for seasonal displays or something. That's entirely too cool! The only thing I can even imagine is like you said, it grew around a large rock. Maybe they cut off the small branch first, and were able to pry the rock out of it. Wonderful find and photo, my friend!

This is unusual for sure.. But, as it happens I saw David Attenborughs 'The Secret Life Of Plants' not last week, and he explained how fungi eats away at dead wood, leaving trees hollow in places, but this allows it bend more easily rather than be rigid.. Man though, being a brainless creature and having one (PC) brain cell to share between themselves assume that because it has this 'hole', it will fall over.. Thats crap! It was in the past and would be now if allowed, the sad tree you saw would live for 100 years happily if left.. Poor thing. Sad shot mate. Rob
