Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

You are so right Andrea. My little Sony pocket camera got the sliding lens cover bent a little (a very fragile part of the camera I might add). The cover sticks when trying to close now. I took it to the shop to see what they could do and it truly was almost as expensive as buying a new camera. Needless to say i decided to deal with it as is. I can just touch the cover and it finishes sliding in to place or open as needed so that is what I do now...although sometimes when trying to get a quick shot I forget to check if it fully opened so I get the first photo with a nice zigzag black frame around it :). But, back to the subject here now. These are super shots. I love the lighting and angles you got. We have some canals close to our house with these same type of waterlilies. I have tried a few times to get nice shots, but I cannot get very close to where the lilies are so the angles are not so great and I do not find out until I get home that there was a bunch of flies spoiling my shot. Not even fancy flies or insects like you shoot, but just plain old black housefies...pfft! I hope to try again later. We also have a bunch of small yellow waterplant flowers (I assume some kind of waterlily) but they bloom a bit later. I will have to try my hand again at those as well. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos here.

Two little beauties Andrea. I use my little bridge camera for everything now, my SLR is practically redundant.

What eyecatching blooms! A superb shot too! I do wish I had put this type in my little pond. I have the usual white ones.

Great capture, Andrea - yes, new is not always better..

Good that you have your backup camera and it (and you) did a great job with this! It's a beautiful photo and so nice that you have a pond with water plants to enjoy.

Amazing capture Andrea, God bless.

You manage to bring out the best in what is already a stunning flower. Beautiful captures both. I really like the second shot as the light gives the petals a sculptural look.

Wow, stunning shots both; the light is wonderful! I love these pink lilies, but all we have in the lakes here are the white ones. There are pinks planted in the water feature at the Woodland Park Zoo rose garden, but I haven't been there in a few years (overdue!!!!!)

Gorgeous captures, love these!

Lovely shots, both pictures are great and you have found out the hard way about the throw away society we live in even if a repairman can do something it usually means pulling out a chunk of something and replacing with a new piece, not very green.

Very beautiful light over these waterlilies, a superb capture indeed.
