Description

Construction of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial began on 16 March 1982 and the Memorial was dedicated on 13 November 1982. A total of 58,272 names are listed, approximately 1,200 of these are listed as missing (MIA's, POW's, and others). The Wall consists of two walls of black granite from Bangalore, India, each 247.75-ft (75.21 m) long, composed of 20 separate inscribed granite panels, plus 4 at each end without names; the panels themselves are 40 inches in width. At the vortex the walls are 10.1-ft in height. The wall pointing to the Washington Monument is the east wall, while the west wall (foreground) points to the Lincoln Memorial. This picture was taken on 8 June 2015, Sig...

I like this POV Sig. It is a moving place to visit but devastating when you get to panel 07E and face your best friends name.

This war was one that was most in the news as I was growing up. I think it ended around the time I got out of high school. I remember many horror stories from that time about that war. I hated that war and all war. But I also I remember how many people treated the solders as the bad guys. I thought at the time it was not fair to them to be treated like that after they had to suffer through the horrors of war. I was glad this memorial was created. I wish with all my heart there were no more wars anywhere and no more need for anymore of this kind of memorial. I guess I still have that child within that wants to believe in world peace. Thanks for posting this. @ Dana...big hugs and shared tears over the loss of your best friend and so many others.

I do remember the Vietnam War it was while I was still at school what an great waste of humans the dirty traps that killed and maimed the boys many never asked to go there many never came back I had hope that it would be the last that we could all get on together But no we still don't we will kill each other Sometime we will see that clock go past 5 to 12 and that will be it

Very nicely taken. I remember the somber feeling and seeing people with paper and pencil to capture a name from the wall.

Ladies and Gentlemen I would like to point out the glaring difference between kids there and kids here. Your picture says it all.. Here, most think Adolph Hitler invented a Mobile phone App. (NO JOKE!) None visit museums or memorials and those that do run about screaming out of control because Teachers are not allowed to 'ouch' them, its called Assault! And worse, the kids know it.. So you have respect and honour (I see your Armed Forces allowed on Aircraft at airport first here they are not allowed to wear uniforms because it 'upsets' people (read - immigrants!). Here we have none! Good shot mate Rob
