Description


The National World War II Memorial is a national memorial dedicated to Americans who served in the Armed Forces and as civilians during World War II. It consists of 56 pillars and a pair of small triumphal arches surrounding a plaza and fountain. It It is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on the former site of the Rainbow Pool at the eastern end of the Reflecting Pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. Great picture. My wife, son and myself visited there and it was such a chilling feeling seeing it. We registered her father since he did fight in WWII. We do plan to go back, there is so much history there.

@stick. Yes! I agree. I only went through Washington, D.C. a couple of time in the early 70's on my way from Jersey to Florida. My major concern at the time was not to get stuck in rush-hour traffic. I am glad i finally went and saw all those sites. Awe-inspriring, humbling and leading to some time for reflection. I wasn't aware of how big (in area) the National Mall is, nor the size of the Washington Monument, or the Lincoln Memorial. I was also surprised at how recently the National World War II Memorial came into being.
