Description
Skylar and Reed limit the advertising for candidates to their main site. One of the agreements
with the Knight and his comrades was to send no more than 25 test subjects to determine whether
they could adapt to the new planet's environment. The big proviso is that they must understand
clearly that they can never return to earth.
Mirabella has been busy learning the earthen cultures the first week as she waits to see how
many applicants there will be. Skylar and Reed are pleased that they have over 100 individuals
showing interest. From the applications filled out, they have a very wide variety of backgrounds
to choose from, should they pass Mirabella's tests.
The day arrives. The first group of 10 have been assembled in the hallway outside an office set
aside for Mirabella's reviews. Skylar is quite excited at these prospects as he waits in the
office. He wants to see Mirabella in action.
He and Reed have been doing so much charity with their trust. But there is only so much you can
do with this kind of setup. Now they might be able to do something really constructive for these
people rather than just feed, cloth and shelter them. If this works out, it could open a whole
new paradigm for the homeless of the world.
The interview process takes about half an hour for each applicant. Mirabella wants to get a really
good read on each one. She doesn't wish to make any mistakes in such a serious undertaking! At the
end of the day, she goes over her results with Reed and Skylar. Of these first 10, only 2 have met
with the minimum expectations Mirabella has developed.
Skylar is disappointed but Reed is more pragmatic. He isn't surprised. He knows there are a lot of
disenfranchised people circulating around out there. Many of them haven't had a stable environment
for years. It takes a lot of character to come through all the rejection and setbacks of homeless
life and still be able to give a good accounting of oneself.
Perhaps the next groups will provide better material. 'We can only hope.' mumbles Skylar.

Fabulous scene and chapter. in a way, it is understandably heart-breaking to see so few who meet the MINIMUM requirements on both sides of the table. For those who wish to start anew, rejection could lead to despair and depression which could lead to reckless acts that would endanger the community at large. For those looking to find those who can qualify, the process seems to be endless and heart-breaking in that, how do you tell someone they aren't the type needed. A disclaimer on the poster and forms might be in order.
