Description
After Hermanus and the Knight, Sir Girard, return from touring the planet, the are surprised
by a visit from the spaceman. He has come to see how things are going on the planet and if
there is any progress on the new planet's alliance with the earthlings.
Sir Girard welcomes the spaceman and invites him and Hermanus to retire to one of the more
comfortable rooms in the castle. Hermanus and the spaceman are seated while Sir Girard seeks
out a few of his comrades. He doesn't want any important discussions to transpire without
the council of as many of his associates as he can muster.
While Sir Girard is away, the spaceman and Hermanus have a pleasant conversation.
'I would have you call me Aton, if you don't mind. I have used the name many times before in
my wanderings about this universe. It has served me well.'
'Are you the same Aton that was revered as a god on our planet in ancient Egypt?' asks
Hermanus.
'One in the same. I wish I could have had better results with that Pharoah. I got him started
in the right direction, but his mind became muddled, everything fell apart before I could
complete my plans for his empire. If we could have had a few more years together, things
would have turned out a lot different for planet earth!'
'Well, I can imagine where it might have led to.' says Hermanus. 'Your manifest abilities for
harmony, innovation and benevolence were unparalleled at the time. This planet is a fine
example of your work. How long did you work to create it?'
'I don't work alone. There are many more like me. We have been around since before time. We
tinker here, construct there, direct in other places. Now that we have established humanoid
populations on several planets, we are ready to populate the many new planets we have been
putting together for the past sevearl billions of years.
But enough of that. I must admire your construction, Hermanus. Your electronic brothers have
done a masterful job with installing your enhancements. I see the suggestions I gave them
resulted in your current configuration. Now, if you don't mind, I would like to get a more
rapid update as to your progress. Conversation has its limitations. Please hold still and
let me gaze into your eyes.'
A beam of light flashed between them and in the twinkling of an eyelid, Aton accesses all
the information he desires from Hermanus. He is greatly pleased at the progress being made
on this planet, as the smile on his face indicates.
Sir Girard returns the see Hermanus and the spaceman in the midst of a warm discussion. The
spaceman expresses his gratitude to Sir Girard for all the help he has given the earthen
envoy. He allows Hermanus to reveal his name to Sir Girard, since they will be working with
each other more frequently in the near future. Once the first earth people are brought to the
planet, many things could go wrong. Aton isn't sure they will adapt, so he wants to be on
hand to assist any way he can.
