Description
From Portland, Oregon I drove for six hours towards the Palouse. The Palouse is a 4,000 square mile region of rolling, asymmetrical hills located in southeastern Washington and north central Idaho. The origin of the name "Palouse" is unclear. One theory is that the name of the Palus tribe was converted by French-Canadian fur traders to the more familiar French word pelouse, meaning "land with short and thick grass" or "lawn." The area is largely farmland, producing wheat and legumes.
