Description

Greetings Folks, Yes, this is what it looks like and no, its not a made up scheme.. Proof finally that indeed the RAF did fly Mustangs (in fact before the U.S. in action, but that's another story), this is the first U.K. based P-51 IN RAF markings.. KH774 ‘GA-S’ 112 Squadron RAF (Shark mouth), was made in 1944 for the U.S.A.A.F but never flew with them.. It finally saw service with the Canadian Air Force in 1951 to 1958 then from then in the hands of various owners.. In 2012 she was purchased by a UK owner and delivered to the UK in August that year. Since then the aeroplane has been overhauled and refitted and is now in the colour scheme of Lt. Blanchford, RAF 112 Squadron which operated from Italy in 1945 on ground attack missions over the Balkans and along the Adriatic coast. I spotted this dismantled in a hanger at Legends last year and did wonder it was going to fly or was passing through.. And if you think this was cool!!! Wait till you see the new(old) P-40! Enjoy and ZOOM Rob

"Oh! It's growling at me. Did I insult it?" - T.Rex. So, it was shipped, not flown back to the UK. I wonder what the postage for that cost? From this angle it looks a bit smaller than the Spit or the Hurricane. Nice high noon lighting. Makes it harder to get well lit surfaces, but also allows for more real rendition of the paint scheme. Keep up the good work! :-)

What's this, a Flying Tigers' set of teeth on the nose of this early Mustang? And, that sure looks like a rather advanced canopy and four bladed prop for an early RAF P- 51. Other than that, a great POV and overall ambience in this photo, mate.

Gorgeous! Truth be told, I'm not much of a Mustang fan - too many of 'em over here - but I do like the ones in RAF camo. They always seem to have something "striking" to liven up the camo. The one near Ottawa has a bright yellow spinner & anti-glare panel on the nose. Btw, was reading (in a US magazine!) that the first air-to-air victory scored in a Mustang was credited to an RCAF pilot!

Way cool pic. The RAF used Allison engined Mustangs as early as Summer 1942. I have the autograph of Hollis Hills, an American flying with the RAF who got the first Mustang kill of the war at Dieppe.

Oh, she looks sweet in this excellent paint job! She's ready to take to the skies, and chew up any opponents. Super shot, Rob! Looking forward to the next one!

Awesome capture of this WWII Mustang.... I wasn't aware England used the Mustang... Neat, learn something new...
