Description

'Damn, the starboard engine was rough..' The Pilot of the Bristol Blenheim Mk IF was nursing his battered aircraft back home.. Shouldn't be far now.. He had lost the other aircraft a while ago.. The flight was vectored toward a stream of Bombers and had at last managed to shoot a Dornier down.. That was before the 109's pounced.. Two Blenheim's were lost, despite the guns they carried and being lighter.. The 'cover', Hurricanes were there but busy with other fights high above them.. Now, with more loose bullets in than they started with and two crew wounded, he was preying that engine would hold.. A crash landing wouldn't be good.. Its true, these Fighter versions of the Blenheim were used during the Battle.. Loses were high as you'd expect.. But when all you've got is these you must use them.. Soon though they were changed to Night Fighter use and became very effective at it.. Its an extremely little know fact that Gloster Gladior Squadrons were active as well, based at Plymouth and Wick, Scotland.. Also, at times Martlets flew and Navy pilots were used a great deal.. Ten U.S. Pilots flew during the Battle, the first to die was Pilot Officer William M.L. Fiske, after bringing his damaged Hurricane back to Tangmere.. ALL are listed on The Battle Of Britain Memorial, London.. Thank You.. Kept Big and using AKVIS.. Is it me or is this good.. I love it.. Taken at Flying Legends 2015. Rob

Now that's a treat! I had no idea there were any Blenheims still flying - or one at least. Thought they were all long gone. Excellent, thanks for posting!

Thanks for posting this rare bird. And thanks for the history going with it. I knew some were involved in the BoB, but not where from. Keep up the good work! :-)

OH YEAH! Didn't know it was an NF gun packer. Beautiful fly-by and it doesn't get any better than this. Especially with a dedi! Thanks so much, Rob!

What Jayfar said, plus great contrast and prop blur, mate. Reminds me of the Mosquito.

Awesome shot of this Blenheim, Rob! I remember reading somewhere about their use as night fighters. Your timing here was perfect - the sky is just a perfect backdrop for this Blennie!
