Description

Greetings Folks, There has been allot of debate and suggestion for the most beautiful aircraft ever designed, from F-16 (Harry), to many others.. And, some are very lovely to look at.. I don't ever disagree with that, I love aircraft anyway.. But, as this remarkable shot of some amazing flying skill shows I think the case is now closed.. Yes, the Supermarine Spitfire (these are all Mk 1's) is British but that to me has nothing to do with it.. Its not my Fave aircraft.. Mine is an ugly beast.. These are the 'Flying Horsemen' who normally rampage about the skies in Mustangs but have taken to using these Spitfires here and flying very close and precise formations and its really stunning to watch.. It does look like art.. If only that French idiot would shut up.... As a side note, the wing was only ever this shape because Mitchell used the best shape for the job and his son said he had NO plans to take it beyond a Mk V! To Mitchell it was a job, to a nation it was the world.. And another note, the Battle Of Britain show at Duxford, that Neil is coming to with me has no less than 22 Spitfires flying!!!! And 5 Hurricanes! Now imagine! Enjoy Rob

Any machine that slips the bounds of gravity by way of aerodynamic design has got to be beautiful by it's very nature (yes even the ugly ones!) Choosing one's favorite aircraft is like choosing one's favorite star in the night sky. It's simply personal. I believe that most aviation nuts, like me, find beauty in each and every plane we see. Much like art, even bad art has something inherently beautiful about it. But when you truly do see one of those special aircraft like the Spitfire or Mustang or a handful of others, your spirit and soul are lifted to new hights. Just a thought. :-) PS Really nice photo, Rob. Sorry to stray from the image like I did.

Has Rob's copying machine hung again? Nope! These are for real. Almost a bit frightening close formation. As for favorite plane - that's a difficult one - so many beautiful aerodynamic ones the choice becomes very difficult. And many are quite similar, too. All I can say is love 'em all! Keep up the good work! :-)

Excellent shot, and I couldn't agree more about the Spitfire's beautiful form. It is a true thoroughbred. My fave plane also falls into the "homely" category - the much maligned Brewster Buffalo.

Great shot, you lucky stiff:-) Just read about The Horsemen (The Bremont Horsemen according to their website). Love their motto, "Escape Life's Gravity". The Lead, Steve Hinton, is in my gallery from a couple of years ago. Back here if you'd like a look: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2233137&np

Hey, I forgot about the Convair B-58 Hustler, that was a real beauty, delta wing and all. But I digress. Terrific POV in this grand shot of the Spitfires, closing in for the kill, mate, with splendid prop blur as icing on the cake. You've got that down pat.

I'll admit, I have a lot of "favourite" planes. But the Supermarine Spitfire... nothing in aviation matches its beauty. Wasn't it no less than Adolf Galland who, when asked what he needed to win the air war, replied "The Spitfire!"?

Art indeed! I love the symmetry here! What a great photo, Rob! I do have a lot of "favorite" planes, and I'll tell you, the Spitfire is right up there among 'em!

Amazing capture mate and one that is worthy of framing. The most beautiful aircraft ever? Yes of course it is... case closed !
