Description

Greetings Folks, A bit more from the fantastic National Railway Museum, which by the way is free (donations accepted and worth it!). This is just one of main halls and gives you some idea of size.. Thats more of Winston's funeral train on the left there, and The Winston Churchill B of B Class Loco, it is big! A full signal rig, and a wonderful cafe but not my favourite there.. But we are looking at the shrapnel scared 0-4-0 No3 Furness Railway, Goods Tender Locomotive 1846.. This is the oldest locomotive in the National Collection with inside cylinders, this is where it began.. It was built by Bury, Curtiss and Kennedy of Liverpool in 1846 and ran until 1898 hauled Iron Ore and Slate.. It then went on show in Barrow where it got bombed by the Luftwaffe! It moved to York and this Museum in 1975.. They left its scars on show.. Enjoy Rob

Thanks Rob. The Luftwaffe either made a navigational boo-boo, or they were VERY desperate to get rid of their bombs before running back home through a gauntlet of Spits! Early locomotive indeed, internal cylinders and all. What is the copper dome? Boiler? Good looking. But, is it functioning or did they have to tow it to the museum? Keep up the good work! It's almost easier to photograph trains - they're not zipping by at Mach 1.5 at elevation, though depth of field can be very tricky, not to mention camera angle. :-)
