Description

After a dry spell of over a month, I finally had a chance to get the Inspire 1 airborne Thursday afternoon. It's just been so hot, and I've been so exhausted from work, that I haven't had much air time with either the Inspire or Phantom. This was a bit of an experiment after seeing a tutorial on making a panorama in Lightroom 2015 on Phlern.com. Anyway, this is my first attempt at creating a pano with Lightroom - I was pretty impressed with the result. This is 9 photos merged together. I had the Inspire about 140 feet up, and just rotated it a few degrees after each shot. This will probably be the last time I fly from here - at least from this exact spot. While I was flying a guy pulled up in a pickup truck. Turned out he had just bought a drone and was going to try it out. I was looking forward to seeing what model he had. We had no sooner started talking about drones, when.... If you look about a third of the way in from the left, you'll see a dark SUV entering the parking lot. From this angle, you don't see the word "RANGER" on the side of it. The Ranger puled up, and calmly got out, and watched my Inspire rotate as I was snapping these photos. My wife looked over at him and asked, "Is this a no-no?" He grinned and nodded his head. The guy with the pickup looked disappointed, and I brought the Inspire in for a perfect landing. The Ranger even said it was a cool looking drone. But he said the Blue River Trail was under the jurisdiction of Jackson County Parks & Recreation, and the only place you could fly in P&R areas are a few AMA sanctioned flying fields. These of course require you to be a member of AMA (American Modeler's Association), and - of course - pay dues. Not that it's a bad thing - I'll probably join AMA eventually, as the dues aren't that bad, and you get liability insurance in case you fly your drone, plane, helicopter, model rocket, etc. through someone's windshield. Anyway, the Ranger was very cool about the whole thing. He gave me kind of a grin, and said "You didn't hear it from me, but that football field on the other side of the trees (visible in the photo) is out of our jurisdiction." So there ya go - I hope you enjoy the photo, and the story behind it! :-D I'll be working on Page 20 over the weekend, along with my table project. Things are moving along nicely with both! Thanks for dropping by, and for all your great comments and support! Hope everyone has a good weekend!

The camera is the one included with the Inspire 1. It shoots 12 MP stills and 4K video. The video is silky smooth. It's a modular camera system, and I understand there will be new cameras for it in the future.

I am blown away with the clarity and detail you get with both of your drones. Lightroom is in my future. Great to see an example of what you can do with it taking nine shots and stitching them together with this result. Fabulous. The ranger backdrop is very interesting...municipalities, counties, etc. must all be trying to figure out what to do about flying objects of all sorts...they don't want to be sued...heaven forbid:-)

Fabulous capture and postwork Rod. At least your drone didn't get shot out of the air like one did just recently.

On the ground, we see really good the difference of light because of clouds!

This is spectacular for a first time Rod - fantastic clarity and invisible stitching. A great zoom and found the ranger's car and tried to water bomb him but couldn't crack into Inspire's control system.

Awesome work! You could never guess it is separate photos. I'm glad the Park Ranger was a nice guy. Some many seem to have power issues these days.
