Description

This orchid is severel years old and every year it came back with these lovely flowers, but not last year. A family member suggested I put it in my studio and let is alone and just give it s little water once in a while and then it would begin to bloom again. ANnd it did, together with some orchid i never could make bloom before. WOO HOO ! I took some shots of the biggest, this one today. I couldnt make my camera blur out the background. To be honest, I dont know how, So.... I had to do it manual in my good old PSP 9. --- I cut out all the flower with my "lasso", added it to a new layer, cleaned up all the edges and gave it a tiny suggestion of a shadow. I blured and darkened the original background layer beneath and merged both layers together and voila ! I heard Photoshop has an easier way to tube an object, but not my PSP9, but I still love it ...................I didn it MYYYYY WAYYYYYY! Have a beautiful day. We have had sun all day and we have around 20C, which cant be better in my opinion. Thank you for viewing and commenting.

This is lovely Helle. What I do for a black background is prop up a piece of card.

To 'blur out a background', you basically want to shoot with the lens's aperture wide open. So for example, in aperture mode, select something like f.2.8....f.22 on the other hand would do the opposite and produce a very long depth of field with the subject and background in focus. You did a great job with Photochoppppe though!

You did a great job with this! Andrew is right about the f2.8 thing, but you can only do that with your big camera. Your little white Samsung (do I remember that right? It's a Samsung?) probably doesn't give you that sort of option.

But gosh! Who cares, when you can get the result in postwork, and it's fun to sit down and do that sort of work? :)

OMG, I didn't know you could grow orchids in Denmark! In any case, this one is stunning, looks healthy, happy and all set to run outside and play. Luverly macro of one of my favorite flowers. As for the bokeh background, since I use a Panasonic point-and-shoot for most of my photos, I've used the lasso technique for years already, no matter the subject matter, whether it be cars, flowers, etc., without making a new layer of it though. A lot of work, but well worth it. And, the temp hit 42.78 Celsius today in my covered patio.

This is incredibly lovely. I have a little orchid I've been nursing along for a few years now, and it never gives me more than a blossom or two; now it's been dormant for two years, and has started losing leaves. I don't know much about them, except for the not overwatering thing, but I have a feeling it's decided to commit suicide :|
