Description

We drove from Sioux Falls to Hot Springs SD today - this was pretty much what we had the entire trip. We stopped at a rest stop, and I couldn't resist getting a few shots of the approaching storm. I was really tempted to get the Inspire in the air, but it was already sprinkling, and I didn't want to get caught in a downpour with her 200 feet in the air. I was so bummed last night... We stopped in Sioux Falls for the night, and I was hoping to get a few shots of the lunar eclipse / blood moon. But of course we had too much cloud cover. Bummer. Tomorrow is "supposed" to be sunny - if so, we'll head north through the Black Hills, then head west to Devil's Tower. I hope to find someplace where I can get some photos and videos from the air - but of course, you can't fly in National Parks, and SD won't allow drones in State parks, either. There may be a few places out in the middle of nowhere - we'll see. Hope everyone has a good week, and thanks for dropping by!

... looks the same as 2000 years ago :) Are those small dots actually buffalo running from an approaching storm ?

I hope that you have a safe trip, and I am looking forward to more pics from your trip.

Yup, that's what makes the grass grow...and corn and wheat and yata, yata, yata:-) Great shot. I know that look well. Only time it has ever bothered me was while flying a light plane...ran into a torrential downpour that sounded like hail on the plane's wings. Thought the windshield might end up in my lap. But as you can see I'm still here. Your travels sound like fun. Devil's tower is a stop we enjoyed 2-3 years ago. Stayed in a KOA right near the base of the tower.

Beautiful shot! I love to watch storms coming in. I'll keep my fingers crossed you get a sunny day and some wide open spaces to let the drones go.

There are hot springs under my property on the old volcano, which is natural, of course, but when we have monster quakes, it makes the land roll and slosh. Its all very cool. Especially for an adrenaline addict. Great shot! ")

We're looking forward to the prairie after being in the mountains for what seems like forever! Right now we're in Casper. Not all that far from you! :) Oh well. We'll see you soon enough anyway. :)

I read Tara and Bill's comments, and I think, you people see so many terrific places. (Hey, I was in Skokie last week.) (That's a burb of Chicago, if you're not familiar.) Anyway, zoom, again, is a must: It's sweeping and mysterious in zoom. Being a born-and-bred midwesterner, I have a strange love affair with these bleak open vistas. This isn't the Midwest, proper, but it's similar in feel. This has a feeling of infinitude, and with the low sky and the rain in the background---those saw-lines in the far horizon---it feels like a timeless moment. But for the fence here, it could be a long time ago. Your sweep and your making the shot 2/3 sky makes this a vast shot. Terrific work with a not-so-easy-to-shoot landscape...
