Description

Lots of cattle grazing in Jackson Hole Valley...in the center of Grand Teton National Park. [Yes, they are very small in this photo] When I looked up the details of who grazes cattle in a National Park, I found that a real battle royal has been going on between conservationists/preservationists and cattlemen for years. At one time there were 31 different cattle groups grazing cattle here. A law was passed in 1950 that will eventually phase out all cattle operations in the park and return the entire preserve to wildlife. Eventually, bison, elk, deer, bear, wolves and other wildlife will once again reign. P.S. Only wildlife in the adjacent Yellowstone National Park...it dates from 1872 [before cattlemen had a chance to move in].

Stunning landscape; that yellow growth is lovely. And the cows are awfully tiny there in the distance!

A contentious debate, but I'm glad some areas like this will be preserved for wildlife only. Stunning Vista, Bill!!

I thought buffalo until I read your comments. Sigh. Humans do push wild life out. Very sad. Nice photo. The wooded area and the mountains look great! Is this a panorama as it's so wide? Keep up the good work! :-)

What a spectacular photo of the Tetons, Bill! Wyoming is such a spectacular state. We just managed to scratch the surface of it last week.... Finally got to see Devil's Tower. Now we have one in our living room! It's only about an inch and a half tall, though... LOL

Fabulous color, clarity and depth in this scenic shot, Bill. Love that mountain range. All that's missing is the family from the Bonanza tv series.

a gold tinged landscape, where the fore and midground shine in golds and red-browns. The line of trees in "front" of the mountains are a simple "collar," a beautiful ochre-tinged band. (I put "front" in quotes, because I know those trees are far in front of those mountains...distance gets compressed in shots like these.) And then the peaks once more. In seeing these in your gallery, I'm really struck at how 'frontal' the Tetons look. Like someone came along and scooped out a whole bunch of peaks in front of them, so we could have this view. And you captured how the mountains take on the blues of the sky. It's awash in deep golds and blues---pretty much opposites on the color wheel, therefore complementary hues, and therefore they make wonderful contrast. An inner glowing shot, Bill, with more fine work on detail and atmosphere...And I can see the cattle, and they make it look like they have that whoooooole beautiful land to themselves...
