Description
I was surprised to find a large injured bird in my yard. He walked into my garage and spent the night there. The next day I called the Humane Society Bird Rescue. They came and rescued the bird today. He hissed his disapproval loudly but was quickly captured with a net and placed into a carrier.
The bird was a Juvenile Turkey Vulture that was most likely struck by a car and had a broken right wing. He was only able to raise his left wing to warm in the sun. He then walked back into the garage to hunker down in his misery in quiet and solitude. I was impressed by the light and color in the morning sun on his one good wing, which is mostly brownish black otherwise.
The rehab worker said he had some good weight on him and they have high hopes for is recovery despite having gone without food for nearly two days. Since they are so very beneficial to the environment, disposing of harmful bacteria and disease with their incredibly acidic gastrointestinal systems, I was gratified to have tried to do what I could for him.

Another full shot of this turkey vulture. Juvenile turkey vultures don't have the red heads we normally see.

This shot is right up my alley! Part of something familiar, yet totally unrecognizable. "Bird" comes to mind, but that's it. I LOVE that sort of thing! Glad you called the rescue people. They do good work.

Kudos to you for performing the humanitarian task of help saving the big bird, Maria, who suggests an Indian headdress in this highly detailed pic.
