Description
Or, should I say, mooned by a gerenuk, captured back on 3/13/10, at the beautiful Griffith Park/Los Angeles Zoo in Los Angeles, California.
Goodness, this guy has got to put some meat on those delicate bones.
The gerenuk /ˈɡɛrɛnuːk/, Litocranius walleri, also known as the Waller's gazelle, is a long-necked species of antelope found in dry thorn shrubland and desert in the Horn of Africa and the African Great Lakes region. The word gerenuk comes from the word in the Somali language, Garanuug, meaning "giraffe-necked". Gerenuk are sometimes also called the giraffe-necked antelope. It is the sole member of the genus Litocranius.

A lovely portrait of this slender creature!

Interesting species. I don't think I ever saw one of these; nor would I have known what it was without the information you have provided. I guess with such spindly legs it's a good thing it's quite thin. Great photo, even if it is a bit "hind sighted."
