Description

Just one of 117 shots I took of the recently constructed beautiful Shoemaker Avenue bridge, spanning one section of the I-5 Freeway, captured on a cool 12/25/14 @ 9:02 am. I got up early that morning, and drove three miles to take advantage of the long shadows that the east railing casts across the road that time of year. Even though there are sidewalks with a curb on both sides of the structure, there are signs at the base saying no pedestrian traffic allowed on the bridge. Huh? There's an oxymoron for you. Oh well, with no one around to stop me, I trespassed anyway. Mea culpa. ZOOM at all costs. Shalom.

Well worth the transgression, Harry; what a stunning bit of shadowplay!

Nice catch. A trip worth making too. Seasons continually make for changing scenes; and the mountains in the background look interesting too.

How many times have I driven or walked somewhere and never noticed shadows and interesting details. You have a good eye to see these things many others ignore. Well done, Harry, and glad you didn't get in trouble for stopping there. :)

I'm really happy this got as many comments as your flower shots do. Maybe it's a good sign. These types of shots deserve just as much. I'm almost at an hour, so I have to stop for now, but instead of taking the next shot "down" (I went chronologically from the most recent, down), I skipped to this. Because when it went up I thought: I gotta comment on this soon.

Wonderful sweep in the shot. The shadows race across the road like the spans of a great bridge. And it's not a Brooklyn Bridge or a Golden Gate---it's just a normal bridge. But, in the perspective, and in this intense light, the spans look grand. More of your formal photography, as in capturing formal abstract language, and its eddies and flows. (We had a joke about Eddy and Flo: When they'd get together, you'd have "eddies and flo's".) A pic with a grand sweep, and that morning light becomes magic in your hands. Also, you got the landscape to conform perfectly with the other side of the bridge: It barely peaks its head over the concrete. Beautifully done and balanced. This is a harry shot, through and through!
