Nice photo of both tanks. Interesting to see both paint schemes on the same photo. Unfortunately the US tank destroyer concept was flawed from the outset (speed was thought to protect it, hence thin armor and an inadequate gun). The Sherman was better protected but designed to be an infantry support tank, based on WWI concepts. The drawback of being separated from Europe by the Atlantic ocean was US tank designers and US tacticians could not see what was being produced by Germany and how their tanks were used. An estimate was 5 Shermans to knock out one Panther. A steep price indeed.

I believe that is an M-36 in the back, which had a very effective 90mm gun. The M-10 has a sharply upswept bustle on the back of the turret, not the deeper bustle seen here. Where was this taken?
