Description

The Great Fountain Geyser at Yellowstone National Park is sort of like Old Faithful, but it might be better called Old Slowpoke, or Old Unreliable. The sign at the entrance to this area says, "Great Fountain Geyser may erupt between" and then there are two handwritten placards slipped into slots that say something like "Wednesday at 5:30pm and Saturday at 11:30am." I guess it isn't an exact science. But it's a beautiful spot, and the mountains made a wonderful backdrop. Knowing how much Rod likes Yellowstone and wants to get back there, I chose this as his birthday gift.
Happy Birthday, Rod!
We spent the evening with Rod and Jo and went out for a delicious birthday dinner (chicken marsala, spaghetti with meatballs, chicken cannelloni). Bill and Jo were pretty excited because the Royals won their game tonight (that's baseball, btw), and we had a fun time yakking and spending time together. We only get to see them once a year, and it's always a pleasure. :)

And what a beautiful shot of Great Fountain, Tara! I'm dying to get back to Yellowstone (and maybe see the damn thing actually erupt..LOL Last time we were there it erupted the day before...:-P) A perfect birthday photo - thanks so much (and for dinner, too :-D) Love you guys!

This is such a special photo, Tara! That blue colour, the textures, and the steam; in such way it looks so dreamy but on the other hand also full of action. Bravo for Rod and your fantastic (diner-)evening together. Happy Birthday Rod.

This is a beautiful photo Tara and an instant fave. We did see 'Old Faithful' blow but that wasn't difficult - about every 16 minutes if I remember correctly. Happy birthday Rod.

What fun about the sign! I watched a programme about Yellowstone last night about the history of the expulsion of native people and the shooting of all the wolves. I didn't realise it was only about 1995 that they brought the wolves back!

What a beautiful postcard-type shot, sparkling in the sunshine, and clear and sharp showing every detail. I have never been there, something I must remedy one of these days!

At first, it's a beautiful low lying shot, with sweeping forms and beautiful background. But then we're aware of the smoke and 'menace' of these sights, and how those earth-formations (in the water) were bubbled up from a cauldron, belched and vomited from the earth. The water pans out in oozes...and we realize this is a pretty violent shot, only in hints. I really like this, I like the peace of it, and the implied catastrophe. With those tranquil mountains and clouds in the background to give lie to the fact that this is a pretty dangerous place. Very fine work, Tara. A lot of types of expression in this...
