Description

Terragen classic and the Gimp. This was an attempt to create the "falling sky" effect from a tutorial by ladyofspira at deviant art. I didn't get the effect I was hoping to achieve, but liked it nonetheless.

I love QuietRiot saying "too soon! too soon!" (about the bleak nature of the landscape...november is upon us now!) Whatever you didn't do from the DA tutorial, it's still a sweeping landscape, and it's not just in the clouds which collide from all directions; but in the land itself, which looks wind-blown and etched-out by long geological erosion. There's as much sweep in the rock as there is in the clouds. And the lighter portions of rock could be snow, ice, or different minerals present in the rock. I like the ambiguity (as it is in nature, at least from a distance). And the whole piece is of one patina---a kind of blue-gray hue, with very strong whites in the sky---which is very evocative. Almost of a time before all life. A 'top of the world' image, like this is a valley at the top of a very high peak. And the clouds whoosh and rush, while the rock seems to do the same, below. Icy and mysterious, and timeless...
