Description
Got back from my Danube river cruise night before last & have just started to go through the 2,500+ photos I took. Unfortunately, the weather during the first week of the trip was kind of dismal - drizzly rain on some days & very cold on others with dull gray skies, so not ideal for photography. Weather got better the last week, most of which we spent in Prague, so I'm going to start from there & work backwards. Prague was amazing - aside from it's beautiful architecture & rich history, the city was bursting with energy - art, music & throngs of people in the street at all hours.
Aside from the weather, I have mixed feelings about my river cruising experience:
On the plus side, the staff was very friendly & efficient, they handled all the messy details of traveling for us, the local guides they contracted with were all very good & the food & wine were outstanding.
On the negative side, I didn't like the fact that there was little room for improvising, I felt that the time to visit some of the sites was too limited & I don't really like traveling with large crowds. It was an interesting experience, but I don't think my personal style of traveling meshes well with cruising & it's highly unlikely I would ever do it again...

Oh boy! I'm going to love seeing your pictures, and I've already learned something about the river cruise thing. We've been talking about a Rhine River cruise (possibly Paris to Prague, but of course it's all up for discussion at this point), so any tips you want to share will be greatly appreciated.
This is a terrific picture, and makes me want to go even more! :)

Re your pics from cloudy rainy days, you have to do what you're called to. But I've yet to see you be brought down by weather, and whatever you decide to work up I'm sure will be your usual vibrant intense revelatory stuff. Re river cruises, I've heard the same pros and cons from others. I'm glad you got as much good out of the trip as you did.
As for this shot, another beautiful 'from above' shot, and the spread and details are wonderful. You got the criss cross and counterpoint of these old European cities; and from this angle we can really feel their rhythms. Beautiful full hues too---what we expect from you---even in the midground, where hues start to fade. And fine contrasts too. A fine piece of work. And great way to start out your series.
