Description

A panorama taken from the top of the clock tower in Old Town Square. Old Town Square was constantly filled with street performers & swarms of people. Every hour, especially large crowds gathered at the foot of the famous Astronomical Clock to watch the figure of the skeleton ring his bell & the statues of the apostles rotate into view in the windows above the clock. For the weekend we were there, there was a festival going on & a pulsating light show was projected on a building in the square at night (as well as other locations throughout the city) while music played... I've just come back to RR myself, though for much more pedestrian reasons---as this bursting photograph attests. I'm starting out by doing 1 shot in each gallery, to get used to being back, so please know I'll be back for more in-depth comments soon. But Claude...whoa...this is beautiful! The array of red roofs, mixed with all the beige, earth-toned, and other facades, mixed with the beautiful trim and all the dormer windows, mixed with the beautiful circuitous street plan---which we witness via a maze of rooflines and twisty canyons beneath them---topped off by a bleak white-gray sky and those gentle hills in the background---it's beautiful. The prospect of an array of Claude shots from another country is mouth-watering (given your shots from France): I'll be back for more. But this is a wonderful kickoff. (And I know there's one before this, which I also loved; but the profusion of red here, and the feeling of a "model"---like we're looking at a huge city-model---makes this a great place to start. Welcome back, and I hope your return is sweet and relaxing. Wonderful shot.) (PS, this really demands the full zoom; it blossoms full size...)

By all means begin with a zoom! I look at all those tile roofs and my mind wanders to those men whose life long occupation has been building and maintaining the roofs of this old, old city. Usually we look at architecture from street level. This view gives the city a whole new pattern. Great POV and unique composition.
